NOTES from the 1 August RBPD Block Captains Meeting
Crime is up on average 30% over last year in the South Bay and Redondo Beach.
RB has only 9.3% of streets covered by Neighborhood Watch.
RB does has the highest South Bay % arrest rate of crimes in progress due to the timeliness of residents calling the RBPD.
RB Police Chief John Neu said residents should not be timid about reporting any suspicious behavior to the RBPD. Call first, the police will worry about whether it’s a crime later.
You should use the RBPD Dispatch # (310) 379-5411 for fastest response time- not 911.
Suspicious behavior may include:
-someone hanging around the front lobby door for no apparent reason. -someone loitering in the vicinity of the garage gate.
-someone going door-to-door with no apparent reason.
-someone in the garage or walking down the street trying car door handles or
looking into windows of parked cars.
-a stranger trying to use the intercom or ringing door bells and then walking
away quickly.
-transactions taking place from a car window or trunk.
-a stranger loitering in the area for an extended amount of time.
The RBPD is very concerned that we are not prepared to take care of themselves when a natural disaster occurs and there is no one available to respond to our 911 call. We need to be prepared to help each other. There are programs sponsored by the City to help us get prepared (www.redondo.org).
