Your Condo Water Shut Off Valves
Casa Bahia Homeowners and Residents,
Since we have started the hydro jetting project this year, we have had several emergency water shut offs. These have been caused by the water shut off valves (called angle stops) in the condo breaking off when the plumbers attempted to turn them off. This is caused by a lack of use. It is recommended that you turn then off and then back on at least twice a year.
These angle stops are your responsibility. They are located under your sinks, behind the toilet and behind your washer. When the stems break off they tend to leak, sometimes causing major flood damage so be very careful. The only way to stop this kind of leak is to shut down the building water, which takes time.
We recommend that if your angle stops are six or more years old and have not been exercised on a regular basis, that you consider having a plumber replace them in advance of the hydro jetting.
We also recommend that on days when hydro jetting will take place, that you be prepared for brief water shut offs of about an hour.
